We invite you to read our weekly posts every Sunday morning. There will be one from Kent and another from Judi.
About Us
★★★★★
We’re Kent and Judi—two newly retired adventurers beginning a new chapter of life together.
After nearly 45 years of marriage, raising four wonderful children, and welcoming nine amazing grandchildren into the world, we decided it was time to try something a little different for the next season of life.
So we did something that surprised many of our friends and family.
We sold our cars.
We gave away or sold most of what we owned.
We packed the rest into a few suitcases.
And we moved to Mexico.
For the past 27 years we called Louisiana home, but retirement opened the door to a big question: What do we want the next chapter of our lives to look like?
After a lot of dreaming, planning, and more than a few emotional goodbyes, we decided to move to the beautiful Lake Chapala region in the state of Jalisco, Mexico.
Kent spent many years working in graphic design, teaching college night classes in design and photography, and eventually working in IT at a medical school for 27 years. Judi dedicated 31 years of her life as a registered nurse.
Now we are beginning what some people call the “go-go years” of retirement.
We’re learning Spanish (or trying to!), exploring Mexican culture, riding cargo e-bikes instead of driving cars, and discovering what it means to build a life in a new place with fewer possessions but more freedom.
This blog is our way of sharing the journey.
We hope to tell honest stories about downsizing, starting over in a new country, learning a different culture, and experiencing the beauty of everyday life in Mexico.
Mostly, though, this blog is for the people we love.
Our family and friends are spread across many places, and this is our way of keeping them close—sharing the adventure, the surprises, the challenges, and the joy along the way.
If you’re reading this, we’re glad you’re here.
Thanks for following along as we begin this next chapter.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why did you choose Ajijic, Jalisco Mexico?
The weather is just about perfect. We can be active year-round. This is still close to home. Family visits are still just a short flight away. Mexico isn’t necessarily cheap but life can be fun and peaceful here. We are surrounded by happy people.
What activities do you enjoy in retirement?
Although we have cut out many hobbies, we enjoy walking and biking. We enjoy art and music. We have taken up bird-watching. Kent continues to play pool weekly with friends. Judi enjoys learning to use local ingredients in the kitchen. Mostly we love exploring and adapting to a new culture.
Do you feel safe in Mexico?
We have felt completely safe in all the communities along the north-shore of Lake Chapala. We have only felt warmth and friendliness from the locals here. Some expats can be grouchy, weird or cliquey. “They not like us.” 😉
